Four Way Stop at Salem and Gray Suspended Pending Further Study
Town has engaged Beta Engineering to study the intersection.
Billerica, MA January 26, 2024: Statement of Town Manager John C. Curran:
The Select Board had an emergency meeting today to remove the two stop signs placed on Salem Road this morning. The Board voted on Monday to place the stop signs following the fatality at this intersection making the Salem and Gray Intersection a four way stop. It was quickly apparent that most motorists were not aware of the stop signs and that more mitigation would need to be implemented to make this a safe intersection.
The Polce Chief advised the board to remove the signs until the matter could be studied and a comprehensive solution could be developed for the intersection. The Select Board requested that the Town Manager expedite the study and voted to remove the stop signs for now.
