Robbery Suspect Arrested

Billerica Police | MA Posted on October 23, 2015 by BPD TechOctober 29, 2015

BPD PatchBILLERICA — Chief Daniel Rosa reports that the Billerica Police Department arrested a man for robbery at a local store on Friday evening, and it turned out that the suspect also had three outstanding arrest warrants.

FREDDIE PEREZ-ERAUSQUIN, AGE 27, OF SPRINGFIELD was arrested after police responded to the CVS/Pharmacy on Boston Road at 7:15 p.m. Friday.

PEREZ-ERAUSQUIN allegedly walked into the store and approached a cashier to make a purchase. When the register drawer was open, he allegedly leaned over, grabbed cash, and fled.

An off-duty Harvard University police officer was nearby and heard the commotion. He ran over and physically restrained PEREZ-ERAUSQUIN until Billerica officers arrived to arrest him.

PEREZ-ERAUSQUIN was transported to Saints Medical Center for an evaluation and released a few hours later. He was charged with Unarmed Robbery and Resisting Arrest.

“This was a good team effort by our off-duty colleague from Harvard and Billerica Police responding quickly to arrest this suspect,” Chief Rosa said. “Thankfully, no one was hurt, and this suspect, who was already wanted for a host of other crimes, is now in custody.”

PEREZ-ERAUSQUIN also has arrest warrants open out of Lowell District Court, for motor vehicle charges, destruction of property, and other crimes.

The suspect is being held at the Billerica Police Department pending his arraignment Monday in Lowell District Court.

These are allegations. All suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty.

Billerica Woman Charged with B&E Nightime and Destruction of Property

Billerica Police | MA Posted on October 14, 2015 by BPD TechOctober 14, 2015

Billerica – On Wednesday, October 14, 2015 at approximately 1:30 AM, Billerica PD received an emergency call for glass breaking at an apartment unit located at #28 Kenmar Drive, Billerica. Officers arrived to find an unsecured second floor apartment door that had obvious damage consistent with being forced open. After checking the apartment, officers determined that there were no occupants present. They further discovered extensive damage to the inside of the apartment, including multiple hammer sized holes through various mirrors, glass, a bathtub and a sink. There was also a large hole in the slider glass door that leads to the balcony of the apartment. Damage to the apartment was estimated to be in the area of approximately $8,000. While on scene, officer discovered a construction type hammer on the ground that appeared to have been used to commit the damage. After a short investigation, which included speaking to various residents in the densely populated apartment complex, officers identified a suspect as Stephanie Lyman, 43, of Billerica. Lyman was located a short distance from the scene and placed into custody. She was charged with Breaking and Entering the Nighttime with Intent to Commit a Felony as well as Malicious Destruction of Property over $250. Another Billerica Resident Victimized | IRS Scam

Billerica Police | MA Posted on October 11, 2015 by BPD TechOctober 12, 2015

On Friday, October 9, at approximately 4:00 PM a Billerica resident received a call from an individual claiming to be from the Internal Revenue Service. The calling party’s telephone number allegedly came up on caller ID as the Billerica Police Department. The caller advised the victim that he owed back income taxes that needed to be sent via Money Gram immediately or he would face criminal charges. The victim ultimately wired a large sum of money to the caller.

The Billerica Police want to repeat that anyone who requests money or personal financial information over the phone is likely scamming you. Some of these scammers use sophisticated methods, which they continually modify to throw off law enforcement. The use of a “spoofing tool” to change the incoming caller ID number on a target’s phone is a commonly used scam.

Please speak to your friends and family, especially those in the advanced years, to update them on some of these common scams. Residents are also encouraged to visit the Federal Government’s Internet Crimes Complaint Center for the most recent advisories and nations wide trends in the area of electronic crimes.

Billerica Police Offers Child Seat Safety Tips

Billerica Police | MA Posted on September 22, 2015 by BPD TechFebruary 22, 2018

BPD PatchBILLERICA — Police Chief Daniel Rosa and the Billerica Police Department would like to remind the community about properly securing their children in car seats and boosters.

The Massachusetts Child Passenger Safety Law requires that all children sit in a federally approved car seat or booster, which must be properly fastened and secured, until they are 8 years old or over 57 inches tall. It is recommended that children under the age of 13 ride in the back seat.

All infants and toddlers should be in rear-facing car seats until they reach the age of 2 years old, or the weight and height limit issued by the manufacturer. Toddlers and preschoolers should be placed in convertible and forward-facing seats equipped with a harness. Once school-aged children outgrow their forward-facing seats, they should sit in a booster until they are old enough to wear a seat belt.

“It is vital that parents and guardians are taking the time to properly install child safety seats,” Chief Rosa said. “The safest place for children while in the car is in the backseat, but only if those seats are correctly installed and children are properly secured.”

The Billerica Police Traffic Safety Unit is comprised of four officers who are all trained as Child Passenger Safety Technicians (CPS) and have completed The National CPS Certification Training Program. Currently, child seat installations are by appointment only based on the availability of technicians. Participants are encouraged to call Sgt. Craig Grogan in the Traffic Safety Unit at 978-215-9686 to schedule appointments.

Prior to a scheduled appointment, participants must do the following:

• Bring a current copy of the child safety seat manual and vehicle owners manual to the appointment
• Attempt to install the child seat according to instructions in the manual
• Clean and clear vehicle of any debris that would inhibit the proper installation of a child seat
• Have accurate and current heights and weights of the child whom the seat will be installed for, it is preferred if the child is present.

According to the Massachusetts Executive Office of Public Safety and Security, 75 percent of child safety seats are installed incorrectly, and motor vehicle crashes are one of the leading causes of death and injury for all children. In fact, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) reports that 638 children 12 years old and younger were killed in motor vehicle accidents in 2013, and that more than 127,250 were injured.

Properly securing your child in an age and size appropriate car seat greatly lowers the risk of serious and fatal injuries. The CDC reports that:

• Car seats reduce the risk of death to infants by 71 percent, and to toddlers between ages 1 to 4 by 54 percent.
• Booster seats decrease the risk for serious injury by 45 percent for children 4 to 8 years old when compared with solely seat belt use.

Child Passenger Safety

Billerica Police | MA Posted on September 17, 2015 by BPD TechFebruary 22, 2018

The Executive Office of Public Safety and Security’s Highway Safety Division (EOPSS/HSD) is committed to ensuring the safety of children riding in motor vehicles on the Commonwealth’s roadways. EOPSS/HSD actively works with local municipalities, hospitals, and not-for-profit organizations to promote proper child passenger seat installation and usage through community outreach, maintaining a child passenger safety (CPS) information line, and by training CPS technicians. We will continually strive to increase the number of CPS checkup events and fitting stations throughout the Commonwealth, both of which provide residents with free child safety seat installation or inspection by certified CPS technicians.

For more information please visit the Executive Office of Public Safety’s website HERE or call the Child Passenger Safety Information Line at 877-392-5956.

The Billerica Police Department also performs safety seat installations by appointment. Call Sergeant Craig Grogan at 978-215-9686 to schedule.
