On July 18, 2012 the Billerica Police received a phone call from an individual working at 300 Concord Rd, a commercial building. The caller reported seeing a male and a female in the parking lot acting suspiciously, looking into parked cars. Officers were alerted to the activity and were given the description provided by the caller.
Officer Dan O’Leary, who was working a traffic detail nearby on Concord Rd, drove over to the area in his personal vehicle in an attempt to locate the individuals. When Officer O’Leary pulled up to the scene, the female yelled, “Cops! Cops!” . O’Leary found the male underneath a 2012 Honda Pilot in the process of removing the vehicle’s catalytic converter.
Both individuals were arrested by O’Leary after the owner of the vehicle confirmed that no permission was granted to perform any work on the vehicle.
Benjamin Powers, 21, of Billerica was charged with attempting to commit a crime, vandalism and possession of burglarious instruments.
Chelsea Mayville, 18, of Billerica was charged with attempting to commit a crime and vandalism.
