Billerica Police and Fire Departments Respond to Three-Alarm Fire in Scrap Yard

Billerica Police | MA Posted on September 15, 2023 by BPD TechSeptember 15, 2023

BILLERICA — Police Chief Roy Frost and Fire Chief Robert Cole report that the Billerica Fire and Police Departments responded on Friday to a three-alarm fire at a scrap yard.

On Friday, Sept. 15, at approximately 2:45 p.m., the Billerica Police and Fire Departments were called to Jacks Used Cars and Parts at 24 Town Farm Lane for a report of a structure fire.

Companies arrived to find heavy fire showing from a 50 by 100-foot metal structure on the property and several vehicles that were parked nearby it.

First Responders treated a male at the scene who suffered severe burns. That individual was taken to Lahey Hospital and Medical Center in Burlington by a MedFlight Ambulance.

Firefighters faced labor intensive work to establish a reliable water supply and had to stretch hoseline approximately 1,800 feet from the nearest fire hydrant. A third alarm was eventually struck to bring additional manpower to the scene.

Firefighters from Burlington, Chelmsford, Lowell and Tewksbury provided mutual aid at the scene.

Firefighters from Wilmington, Tewksbury, Lowell, Bedford and Burlington covered Billerica fire stations.

An investigation conducted by the Billerica Fire Department, with assistance from the State Police Fire and Explosion Investigation Unit attached to the State Fire Marshal’s Office, determined the fire was accidentally caused by a torch that was being used on a vehicle.

Billerica Police | MA Posted on August 30, 2023 by BPD TechAugust 30, 2023

Fentanyl, cocaine, steroids and cash that was seized as police executed a search warrant at 30 New Foster Road in Billerica on Tuesday.

BILLERICA — Chief Roy Frost reports that the Billerica Police Department arrested and charged a Billerica man with trafficking both cocaine and fentanyl.

RASHEIB YANCY, AGE 46, OF BILLERICA, was arrested and charged with:

• Trafficking Fentanyl
• Distribution of Cocaine
• Possession of Steroids
• Possession of a Class A Substance (Two Counts)
• Possession of a Class B Substance

On Tuesday, Aug. 29, the Billerica Police Department obtained and served a search warrant for a home at 30 New Foster Road as a result of a lengthy ongoing investigation into a home break-in. The Northeastern Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council SWAT Team assisted Billerica Police in serving the search warrant.

During the subsequent search of the home, police discovered a large bag hidden inside a washing machine in the home’s basement, and determined the bag contained multiple kinds of drugs.

Police located over 25 grams of fentanyl, over 14 grams of cocaine, a pill bottle containing steroids, several pills of pressed fentanyl, and a small amount of cocaine on a $1 bill.

YANCY was taken into custody at the scene. He will be arraigned Wednesday in Lowell District Court.

During the search, police also recovered evidence that is believed to be connected to a recent home break in. Additional charges may be forthcoming.

The investigation was conducted with invaluable assistance from Chelmsford Police, Pepperell Police, Ayer Police, Dracut Police, Salem, N.H., Police and Massachusetts State Police.

“I want to thank our law enforcement partners in Chelmsford, Pepperell, Ayer, Dracut, Salem and State Police for their assistance with this investigation, which enabled us to locate a significant source of fentanyl within our community,” said Chief Frost.

These are allegations. All suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty.

The NECC Academy consists of more than 900 hours of a combination of practical and classroom training, certifications and service to the community. Classes include first aid, law, applied patrol procedures, firearms, report writing, active shooter training, specialized driving and self-defense.

Officer Pabla, 29, moved to America with his family from Punjab, India and has lived in Billerica for five years. He speaks English, Punjabi, and Hindi. Officer Pabla served as a police dispatcher at Regis College.

“I am very thankful for the opportunity the Police Department has given to me to serve the community of Billerica,” Officer Pabla said.

Officer Coffey, 29, is a Billerica native and 2012 graduate of Billerica Memorial High School. He worked with Billerica Police as a dispatcher.

Officer Coffey has an Associate’s Degree in Criminal Justice from Middlesex Community College, and is working toward a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Massachusetts Lowell.

“I always felt like the police officers in town were extremely fair, and maintained a great relationship with the public,” said Officer Coffey. “I always wanted to be a police officer because of that.”

“I want to introduce these two new officers to the community,” said Chief Frost. “Both of these men possess the skills, demeanor and drive to ethically serve this community and continue to build on the trust and traditions that this department works to achieve.”
