Middlesex Turnpike Road Closure June 14-16
BEDFORD – BILLERICA – The Massachusetts Department of Transportation has announced that a weekend road closure and detour of a portion of the Middlesex Turnpike in the vicinity of the Shawsheen River crossing in Bedford will be implemented from Friday, June 14 @ 7:00 pm until Sunday, June 16 @ 7:00 pm. This roadway closure/detour is necessary to allow crews to safely and effectively conduct excavation and staging operations required for the construction of the new bridge.
For these operations, southbound Middlesex Turnpike traffic will be detoured at Lexington Road to Old Billerica Road southbound to Route 62 eastbound to Middlesex Turnpike.
Northbound Middlesex Turnpike traffic will be detoured at Crosby Drive to Route 62 westbound to Old Billerica Road northbound to Lexington Road northbound to Middlesex Turnpike. Those traveling through the area should expect delays, reduce speed and use caution. Appropriate signage, law enforcement details and advanced message boards will be in place to guide drivers through the work area. The schedule for this work is weather dependent and subject to change without notice.
This work is part of a $35 million transportation improvement project in Bedford and Billerica, and is currently scheduled to be completed in 2023.
