Two Charged In Connection With Thursday Night Accident

Billerica Police | MA Posted on March 16, 2013 by BPD TechFebruary 22, 2018

BPD PatchOn Thursday, 3/14/13, at approximately 10:13 PM BPD Officers were dispatched to the area of 34 Salem Rd for a motor vehicle accident that involved a large (20′) landscape trailer.

Officer Eidens described how he found the trailer in his report, “On top of parked vehicles in the driveway. It appears that the trailer broke free from the towing vehicle, left the roadway, struck some small trees, crashed into the vehicles in the driveway until finally coming to rest on top of those vehicles. In addition, the impact of the trailer had a domino effect on the vehicles pushing one into the next up to three vehicles in. I observed that the trailer hitch from the towing vehicle was still attached (to the trailer)”.  The vehicle that had been towing the trailer had fled the scene.  Officer Eidens identified six vehicles damaged in the accident, three that may be a total loss.

After an investigation, two 18 year old males, one from Billerica and the other from Chelmsford, were identified as bearing responsibility for the accident and will face the following charges in Lowell District court:

  • Leaving the scene of and accident (property damage)
  • Unregistered motor vehicle (trailer)
  • No safety safety chains while towing trailer
  • Attaching a registration plate (trailer)
