Suspect Arrested For Burglary – Stolen Firearm

Billerica Police | MA Posted on July 3, 2012 by BPD TechFebruary 22, 2018

Billerica – On Tuesday, July 3, 2012, at approximately 1:30 PM, Billerica Police responded to the area of Kenmar Drive Apartments for a past burglary involving the theft of a firearm. Upon arriving in the area of the reported incident, Officer Scott Parker observed an individual walking from the area of the scene. The individual was observed to be carrying an item, which was initially believed to be a firearm. Immediately upon seeing the marked police cruiser, the individual covered his face and ran from the scene. This individual, who was subsequently identified as James Robinson, 21, of Billerica, failed to stop for the officer and a foot pursuit ensued. Officer Parker and back up officers secured a perimeter around the area that Robinson had fled, which included a densely wooded area separating Kenmar Drive and Innis Drive. Within approximately thirty minutes Robinson was located and apprehended after a brief struggle. Nobody was seriously injured in the arrest. A subsequent search of the area resulted in the discovery of a  rifle and ammunition located in a wooded area in close proximity from where Robinson had fled.

Following a thorough investigation of the incident, Robinson was charged with numerous crimes related to the break. These charged include Breaking and Entry Daytime with Intent to Commit a Felony, Larceny of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Resisting Arrest, and Possession of Bulgarious Tools. Robinson was held without bail and will be arraigned in Lowell District Court on Thursday, July 5, 2012.

Any additional questions should be directed to Lieutenant Roy Frost, 978-667-1212 x120

Mosquito Control

Billerica Police | MA Posted on June 25, 2012 by BPD TechFebruary 22, 2018

The Central Massachusetts Mosquito Control Project personnel will be in Billerica to investigate resident complaints about Mosquitoes on the following dates:

July 2, 11, 17, 23, 26 and August 1, 7,13, 16, 22 and 28

This program will shut down when cool night time temperatures become predominant.  A notice about the spray schedule is posted on the CMMCP phone system after 3:30 PM each day and it is also listed on their website.

Complaints about mosquitoes may be registered by calling the CMMCP office at 508-393-3055 between 7 AM and 3:30 PM, Monday through Friday.

The results of an investigation may warrant the use of mosquito insecticide to defined, site specific areas of the town.  Such application may be accomplished by using hand or truck mounted equipment, depending on the extent of the application.

Per 333CMR13.04: No intentional application of pesticides shall be made to private property which has been designated for exclusion from such application by a person living on or legally in control of said property. Notices were sent to all City and Town Clerks in February to alert them of the pesticide exclusion process; CMMCP will continue to accept exemptions during the spray season. Residents should contact their Town of City Clerk for more information on the exclusion process, or may contact the CMMCP officer during business hours or apply for an exclusion through the website.

Additional information on CMMCP may be found on the internet at http://www.cmmcp.org

Public Perception of Crime

Billerica Police | MA Posted on June 19, 2012 by BPD TechFebruary 22, 2018

Since the Billerica Police Department jumped into social media in the last year we’ve been providing a constant flow of information to our residents. Much of the information we distribute includes crimes like residential and commercial breaks, larcenies and vandalisms. Residents that keep connected with BPD on Twitter, Facebook or crimereports.com are more aware of criminal activity in their neighborhoods than ever before. Is there a negative to all of this information? We think there is and it has to do with the public perception of crime. If you don’t hear about crime, is it occurring? When you do hear about it, does that mean the crime rate is increasing? When the questions are framed this way most people know the answers.

We found a great piece from Scott Dickson, a crime analyst in central Texas that hits squarely on this issue. It’s a good read for those that may not be familiar with crime statistics and how they relate to public perception of crime. You can read it at Scott’s blog here.

As a reminder, we keep crime statistics on our website here for those that like to keep up with the raw numbers. As we finalize the statistics we update the page to reflect them.
